I cant be happy when Warcraft 3 plot threads have ended in Legion when Sargeras plunged Gorshalach in Azeroth. Someone will get there within a day when it's public. Jailer having Defile makes sense since Arthas would've gotten it through his connection to him, rather than Arthas being involved in both fights. Defile is Jailer's mechanic, by which point Arthas/Anduin will be resolved. He's the "Fallen King" that is referenced by certain abilities. So there would be a callout during the raid fight with Anduin for "Shalamourne Hungers" and the code would reach out to that item standing there to get it. My guess: It's there because there are abilities tied to it from the OG lich king raid and this was the easiest way to call it for those abilities. There is a reference and player weapon item icon in the PTR build that points to the 2 handed mace of Zovaal being a drop from the final fight. No actual frostmourne or some other high lore uber unique item. I hope we get neat things out of this, but its likely just another tier, just another thematic cycle of armor weapons. We are now taking on super satan to keep all the universe safe from a plan that has been millennia in the works. With the heavy parallels to Kingsmourne and Frostmourne throughout Shadowlands (and continuing in 9.2 with Kingsmourne Hungers), we're sure to see some Frostmourne references in Eternity's End, even if they take a more subtle form than this model.īelow are some images from the map viewer provided by Stiven, including an image showing Frostmourne's coordinates on the Zereth Mortis map, way off to the right of the playable zone. Still, it's an interesting thematic addition, considering how 9.1 reveals how souls are shattered by Frostmourne and the Anduin Encounter has parallels to Arthas, not to mention the Jailer casts Defile in his own boss fight.
This may be a fun Easter Egg, only intended to be visible in early data and removed by 9.2 launch, for several reasons: it's located in an inaccessible outdoor area by the raid instead of Zereth Mortis proper, and Frostmourne was shattered at the end of Wrath of the Lich King, reforged into the Blades of the Fallen Prince artifact at the start of Legion. Datamining points to a mysterious Frostmourne model in Zereth Mortis, near the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid.
